Our Battle Plan In the Face of Cancer

After a long and difficult 2013, I felt it was time to share the battle our family has faced and declare the Goodness of God!! For any battle you are facing, my hope is that our story will educate, and hopefully, encourage you.

One year ago this month, my sweet husband Chris, was diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer. It was shocking to say the least. He has spent his nearly 20 year career helping others to live a healthy, pain free life, teaching them that when you remove the interference, the body can heal itself. He ate well, took supplements, exercised, didn’t smoke and lived a very clean lifestyle, yet he was not immune to this insidious disease. What he didn’t do was handle his stress well. This along with some serious dental issues (yes, we believe overall health is intimately linked to dental health) are what we believe was the source, the reason if you will, of why he received this devastating diagnosis. I’ll explain that further a little bit later. But first I must address the True Source of our strength through this war.

What a gift, that from Day One, we had powerful prayer warriors speaking God’s promises over our lives. Man had just delivered his word, but now we needed to stand on God’s word. One was death, the other life…and life abundantly. We refused to say “Chris has cancer”, for that was ownership. This wasn’t a gift from God, but a curse from the enemy; Satan. Rather he said, “I’ve been diagnosed with cancer”. We found every scripture that referenced God’s healing provision; every scripture that said WE have the Victory because of Jesus’ Victory, and every promise of God’s favor on our lives. We made up index cards and spoke them over Chris every day; multiple times a day. When Chris went in for treatment, he spoke them over himself and in doing so, built his faith, and put the enemy where he belongs…under our feet. He is the defeated foe, not us!

Now don’t get me wrong; there were some very dark days. Fear creeps in, and it’s tempting to cozy up to it and wallow in it. That’s easy. What’s hard, is disciplining your mind & spirit to resist the temptation, and believe God’s truth. Such as:
• “With long life I will satisfy him, and show him my salvation.” Psalm 91:16
• “I shall not die, but live and declare the works of God.” Psalm 118:17
• “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not is despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed…therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly, we are being renewed day by day.” 2 Cor 4:8,9 & 16

Physically, Chris had some tough choices to make. As a natural health care practitioner, he chose to forgo conventional treatment for 6 weeks after his diagnosis, and dove head first into almost every alternative treatment he could find. We knew that for nearly every disease we face, you cannot simply treat symptoms; that’s like putting duct tape on a leaky pipe. But rather, you must get to the root cause and remove the source of the interference. (Thanks Dr Pompa!) Once Chris discovered that source, we surged ahead to find everything we could to help re-build his immune system. But alas…not all cancers are the same.

While we know these immune building therapies prepared him for the ravaging side effects of conventional cancer treatment, it did not shrink the massive tumor that was growing in his throat, threatening to close off his airway. He researched every doc, stateside and overseas, who were curing cancer. After 2 of those docs told him to go home and start traditional treatments, we knew God was speaking to us.

We returned to UNC Cancer Center, unjudged by their Amazing medical staff , and Chris began 6 weeks of chemo & radiation. You see, a Napalm Bomb was about to be dropped on his body, and we feel strongly that the 6 weeks he took to uncover & remove the cause, and boost his immunity, significantly helped him endure this process. Chris worked through his entire treatment, when the docs told him he would need to take off about 3 months of work.

After a small “clean up” surgery in July, Chris was declared clean…no residual cancer cells in the lymph nodes. To us it confirmed what we believed from Day One…“By His stripes we are HEALED”.

However difficult, we are grateful for the past year. We saw God move again, and again, and again. It truly was a year of miracles, and we are so looking forward to looking forward. We have however learned to live in the present. It sounds corny, but it really is all we have. Take time to slow down and breathe, and enjoy the moment. If you don’t like it, be brave enough to change it. Sometimes we’re afraid to make a change until we are forced to change, so I encourage you to do it before that occurs…much less painful  :-)

In His Love,
Jill

A Side Note:
I was asked by several folks, what we were doing, naturally, to help Chris and the following article was our Plan of Attack. If someone I knew and loved was diagnosed with cancer tomorrow, these are the things I would tell them to start NOW. As my friend Merily puts it, out of Pain always come Purpose. If we can help one person from what we learned this past year, it was worth it.

Please know that these were our choices, based on our research. I’m not suggesting that any of these therapies will cure cancer, but I will stand behind them for boosting your immunity and helping the body do what God intended for it to do….heal itself.
